EIEIO!
My Diagnosis Experience With MS.
I'm active on many MS patient support forums online.
Earlier, someone newly diagnosed posted a question asking how we were each diagnosed.
I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2008 using the McDonald criteria. These criteria were updated in 2024.
The joke told itself!
While getting a diagnosis of MS is frightening, it gave me an answer. I understood it was incurable and progressive. That said, I was in denial for many years. I have now become very comfortable with my diagnosis.
Since then, I have gotten to know my body well. What I can do. What I can't do.
More importantly, what I won't do.
My mobility impairments from MS are not a coupon code for me to hurt dogs in the name of training.
MS seems to have given me a very inappropriate sense of humor.
The process of MS diagnosis for me was easier than most. My neurologist didn't do any invasive testing. I didn't need a spinal tap. My symptoms and two MRI scans I had a year apart were what confirmed MS.
So I repeat: EIEIO.
